Guide to Moving

If your goods are being professionally packed by Excess Baggages' export packers, there is very little that you are required to do. Our Sales Representative will advise our Packing Crew in advance of any special requirements that you have and you will of course be able to discuss and arrange (in most cases) any last minute inclusions or alterations with them on moving day.

When our Packers leave your home, you will be given a copy of your numbered and measured Inventory List (enumerating each item or package that you send and (usually) the contents thereof). This is prepared by our Packing Crew, as your effects are loaded into the container or vehicle that will transport them. This is the definitive list of contents, showing the final volume on which you will be charged and the number of pieces in your consignment. Copies of this are retained by our Head Office and used by our Destination Office or Agent for Customs Clearance. This ensures that, at all stages of your removal, everyone is able to accurately reference any piece in your consignment.

METHOD OF SHIPMENT
If your move is Intercontinental, your effects will be shipped in either a Sole Use or 'Shared' (or 'Groupage') container. If possible, when you are moving to a main destination ie. Australia, NZ, Canada, South Africa, certain parts of the USA, the UK or Europe, or another major city worldwide, we will offer you the option of sharing a container with other consignments of household effects and baggage. This option is designed to reduce the cost to you, if you so wish. If you are moving to a mainland European destination (from elsewhere in Europe), your goods will be transported by Air-Ride Suspension truck. Either way we will endeavour to have them placed in your new home, as quickly, and as efficiently as possible.

AT DESTINATION
In the UK and in many Australian and all New Zealand cities we have our own branches of Excess International to handle the importation procedure, documentation and final delivery. Throughout the rest of the world, we have a network of fully accredited and internationally approved agents who have been carefully selected to perform this very important final stage of your move to your new residence overseas. Our destination agents all carry the seal of approval of either FIDI - the International Federation of Furniture Removers (Brussels) or HHGFAA- the Household Goods Forwarders Association of America Inc., (Washington), not to mention our own. We cover between the above organisations, over 2000 agents in some 120 countries and territories in this manner, and we exchange regular traffic with many of them.

MONITORING YOUR SHIPMENT
Careful monitoring of your shipment takes place enabling us to advise you exactly where your shipment is at any given time. All documentation is downloaded direct from our computer system into the system of our overseas partners, or it is sent as soon as possible by major courier.
